Equity Hawks, KPA book slots to FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup

DAR ES SALAAM (FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women 2018) - Equity Hawks and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are the first teams to qualify for the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2018 that is scheduled to be held in Maputo, Mozambique from November 9-18. 

David Maina's side defeated KPA 70-54 in their final game of the six-team round-robin competition in the Tanzanian capital on Sunday to emerge winners of the FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championships - their first regional title. 

Renowned shooting guard Hilda Indasi Luvandwa dropped an impressive 22 points, picked eight rebounds and made two assists to inspire the Hawks to a deserved victory over their nemesis in the last two years. 

Belinda Okoth registered a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Betty Mathimba added 12 points to hand the Nairobi-based outfit hard fought dominance at this year's edition after amassing a 5-0 unbeaten record. 

Linet Atieno and Yvonne Odhiambo scored 11 and 10 points respectively for KPA but their efforts were not enough to secure victory for the Mombasa side. 

Meanwhile, Okoth was named as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while APR's Nicole Urwibutso walked away with the top scorer award and Rose Akon of UCU Lady Canons was the tournament's top rebounder. 

The Tournament's All-star Five comprised of Sandra Kantore (APR), Selina Okumu (Equity Hawks), Melisa Otieno (KPA), Nicole Urwibutso (APR) and Vilma Achieng (UCU Lady Canons). 

Ethiopia's Welkite won the Fair Play Award at their tournament debut appearance.
