    Three FIBA Africa Zone 3 teams set to battle for two AWBL tickets

    ABUJA (Nigeria) - Four teams from the FIBA Africa Zone 3 look set to battle for places in the Final Round of Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL) 2023 slated for Egypt from 11 to 19 December.

     

    ABUJA (Nigeria) - Four teams from the FIBA Africa Zone 3 look set to battle for places in the Final Round of Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL) 2023 slated for Egypt from 11 to 19 December.

    The three-team competition to be held in the Nigerian capital city will see MFM Basketball Club of Lagos, host Nigeria Customs of Abuja and ASPAC of Benin Republic trade blows for a chance to make it to the inaugural AWBL in Alexandria.

    The regional qualifier will between December 2-5, and it will qualify two teams.

    Mo Arena, the venue for the AWBL qualifiers is set to bring out the best in all the teams with MFM ready to confirm their superiority as Coach Ochuko Owolabi leads her wards to assert their authority and become the best team in the Zone.

    That ambition will not come on a plate of gold as they will have to contend with the Customs Basketball team that finished third place in the Nigeria league as well as prove to the better side against ASPAC of Benin.

    However, the vice champions of Benin under the guidance of Coach Landry Adognon and expert advice from the team’s technical adviser, Adewumi Aderemi will be no pushovers.

    Aderemi, who had coached the First Bank Elephant Girls and the MFM Basketball Club, is expected to bring his wealth might just make the ASPAC team based on his knowledge be the surprise of the Qualifiers.

    With just a few weeks to the Final Round in Egypt, this three-team play-off promises to bring out the best from the players as they look forward to encountering other teams.

    While the actual battle is between MFM, Customs and ASPAC, another Nigeria team the Air Warriors will play on a non-scoring basis.
