Draw results in for 2022 FIBA U18 African Championship
ANTANANARIVO (Madagascar) - The field for FIBA U18 African Championship 2022 is set after the draw took place, on Tuesday, August 3, in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
ANTANANARIVO (Madagascar) - The field for FIBA U18 AfroBasket 2021 is set after the draw took place, on Tuesday, August 3, in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The nine participating teams have been placed in two groups, comprising of four and five teams respectively.
Africa's flagship basketball tournament for youth will take place in the Malagasy capital from August 4 to 14.
Teams are drawn as follows:
Group A: Algeria, Benin, Madagascar, Senegal
Group B: Angola, Egypt, Guinea, Mali, Rwanda
The draw saw hosts Madagascar inherit the Group A, alongside Senegal, Algeria and Benin. In Group B, reigning champions Mali will have to fend off Egypt, Angola, Rwanda and Guinea.
The opening game will see Angola and Egypt clash before Rwanda and Mali take to the floor in an attempt to kick-start their journey in the Malagasy capital.
On Friday, hosts Madagascar will try to fend off Benin after the official opening ceremony.
COMPETITION SYSTEM:
The 9 participating teams will compete into two groups of four and five teams each in the Group Phase, which will take place from August 24-26.
All the teams from Group A and four from Group B will advance to the Knock-Out Phase (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals).
The Third-Place Game and the Final will be played on August 14.
