MOMBASA (FIBA U16 African Championship 2017) - Kenya is set to host the FIBA U16 African Zone 5 qualifiers from June 1-6 in the coastal city of Mombasa with the winners qualifying for the continental showpiece.

Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania have confirmed participation, and will battle for the lone ticket in offer for the FIBA Africa zone 5 teams.

The winner of the regional qualifiers will secure qualification for the Final Round which will take place from July 13-22 in Vacoas-Phoenix,Mauritius.

In 2015, Rwanda overcame Ethiopia over two legs in Kigali 121-119 on aggregate to make their debut appearance at the FIBA Africa U16 AfroBasket in Mali.

Rwanda lost their opening game against Ethiopia 52-67 before overturning the deficit and winning the second game 69-52 in a rather thrilling encounter that set the pace for a dream come true for the teenagers.

In the same spirit, Rwanda will be looking to defend their title and return to the continental competition, a feat that helped them form their U18 that finished fifth at the FIBA Africa U18 Championship 2016.
