SENEGAL CONSIDERS BID FOR U18 AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
It's been over twelve years since Senegal last hosted a youth African tournament. Back in 2012 Senegal played as hosts of the biennial FIBA U18 African Championship for Women, which they won.
According to Senegal local media outlet wiwsport.com, Senegal Basketball Federation President Babacar Ndiaye, the country is considering bidding for the U18 African Championships.
"We are in the process of seeing if there is a way to organize the AfroBasket U18 in Dakar. There is also a World Cup qualifier tournament for the men's national team in November. Instead of playing it at the Dakar Arena, Marius Ndiaye (Gymnasium) can welcome it so that the public can support the Lions," Ndiaye is quoted as saying.
TANZANIA BASKETBALL FEDERATION MEET SHAREHOLDERS
The Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) participated in a working session between the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Damas Ndumaro, and sports association leaders to discuss the sports Development in the country, a meeting which was organized by the National Sports Council (BMT).
The meeting discussed three main issues, namely conflicts within the country's sports Federations/Associations, for which the Council plans to establish a special Arbitration Court (i.e., Tanzania Court of Arbitration for Sport - TCAS.
TUNISIA PAYS TRIBUTE TO AFROBASKET CHAMPIONS
The Tunisian basketball, over the weekend, paid tribute to their heroes who helped the country win three FIBA AfroBasket titles over the last 13 years.
Winners of the AfroBasket 2011, 2017 and 2021, players, some of whom are now retired, coaches and officials, were recognised by the Tunisian Basketball Federation during an official ceremony.
CLUB AFRICAIN WIN TUNISIA SUPER CUP
Club Africain won the 2023 Tunisian Super Cup thanks to a 68-48 win over US Monastir at Salle Ommnisports de Rades.
AL ALHY BENGHAZI WIN LIBYAN SUPER CUP
Recently qualified for the Basketball Africa League Season 4, Al Ahly Benghazi beat Ittihad 57-55 in the final of the 2022-2023 LIBYAN SUPER CUP.
25-year-old Ghayth Almaghribi, who recently featured for Libya at 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers, was named the MVP Libya Super Cup.
AFRICAN REFEREES SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2024 OLYMPICS TRIAL
FIBA last week pre-selected 40 referees to officiate at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Pre-Olympic Tournament. Teams from Africa include Sara Elsharnouby (Egypt), Arnold Moseya (South Africa), Yann Davidson (Madagascar), Wael Mostafa (Egypt).
BASKETBALL COACHING CLINIC HELD IN MOROCCO
France's basketball coaching association, in partnership with Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation, hosted a five-day two-three grade coaching training in Morocco.
