Milestone day in BCL: Gjergja climbs to 2nd all-time, Strasbourg get to 60, Holon to 90

MIES (Switzerland) - The Basketball Champions League is in its eighth season, with a number of teams and coaches returning to the competition with each passing year. No wonder we have to update the books.

MIES (Switzerland) - The Basketball Champions League is in its eighth season, with a number of teams and coaches returning to the competition with each passing year. No wonder we have to update the history books week in, week out.

With Filou Oostende defeating EWE Baskets Oldenburg 88-83, coach Dario Gjergja got his 41st win in the BCL. He moved one win ahead of the former MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg playcaller John Patrick, and is now standing all alone in second spot on the coaches' wins rankings in BCL history.

The only man in front of the Croatian coach now is Txus Vidorreta. The lead is more than comfortable, as Vidorreta has 82 wins in the Basketball Champions League, including two championships, in 2017 and 2022.

Meanwhile, SIG Strasbourg moved to third all-time in wins, following their 80-65 triumph over Pinar Karsiyaka. This was the French team's 60th BCL win. Only AEK BETSSON BC and Lenovo Tenerife have more, with the Greek club at 72 wins, and the Spaniards just five wins away from becoming the first team with 100 wins in this competition.

Hapoel Holon are also closing in on the century mark, but in games played. On Wednesday, they became the fifth team with 90 BCL games, and their record is at exactly 50 percent of wins and defeats, 45W - 45L.
