Two points only: France's Fortress shuts down Canada in historic quarter

A historic defensive quarter for France

France set a record by conceding only two points to Canada in the second interval of their opening game.

LILLE (France) - The incredible defense of France locked down Canada in a record-breaking way at the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024.

Holding their opponents to just a single basket during the second period, this tally of only 2 points set an all time low for any quarter at any edition of the Games - men or women.

The ball denial of France was sensational as they used their length and athleticism to disrupt Canada over and over again. They also turned on the style at the other end of the court too, in what turned out to be a dominant and game-changing 23-2 period.

France says not in their house to Canada

It was clear that the energy of the home crowd at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium played a key factor in boosting the efforts of the team towards the historic quarter.

The previous record was three points conceded, happening three times in the Women's tournament - most recently being yesterday when Serbia were held to only three points in the fourth quarter against Puerto Rico.

On the Men's side, Australia managed only three pts against Greece in the fourth quarter of their 2004 group stage matchup.
