PARIS (France) – Playcaller Jean-Aime Toupane has been given the green light to continue at the helm of the French national team for the next four years. The extension of the contract is richly deserved in the wake of the team’s recent success on home soil at the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 when they matched their best ever finish at the Games.
Taking silver at the showpiece event, they only missed out on a glorious gold medal by a solitary basket in a pulsating and nerve-shredding 67-66 Final loss to USA.
That endeared the team even more to fans of Les Bleues, who showed their affection and pride with some tremendous and fervent support throughout the tournament in Lille and Paris.
Toupane has certainly embedded a strong identity within his team. Defense and intensity have been very much the pillars that have underpinned some fabulous results and performances. The second podium step also followed on from last year’s Third Place finish at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023. This was the first medal for the playcaller while holding the reins, having initially took charge ahead of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney. This next cycle in the run up to the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Los Angeles 2024 could include the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin, as well as two FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournaments in both 2025 and 2027.
