DAKAR (Senegal) - Ferroviario de Maputo won the 2024 Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) on Sunday 15 December in Dakar after defeating Egypt's Al Ahly Sporting Club 81-72 in the final of the annual event.
Apart from the 2020 and 2021 editions of the African Women's Champions Cup, which didn't take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the third continental title for Ferroviario de Maputo since 2018.
The Locomotivas finished this year's WBLA campaign with a perfect 6-0 record, while Egyptian champions Al Ahly Sporting Club finished 5-1 to claim the silver medal.
Rwanda's APR beat hosts ASC Ville de Dakar 96-94 in extra time to finish third.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly Sporting Club's Ndioma Kane has been named the 2024 WBLA Most Valuable Player.
The Senegal international was named on the All-Tournament team alongside her team-mate Raneem Elgedawy, APR's Shaina Pellington, Ferroviario's Ingvild Mucauro and ASC Ville de Dakar's Kamite Elisabeth Dabou.
Pellington took home the top scorer award, while REG's Aminata Ly was named best rebounder and Ferroviario's Anabela Costa was named best three-point shooter.
Côte d'Ivoire champions Friend's Basketball Association took home the Fair Play trophy.
