LAS VEGAS (USA) - The USA players representing the most dominant country in the history of men's basketball at the Olympics are gathering in Las Vegas.
They have one aim.
"Let's get it," Stephen Curry said as he arrived in Vegas for training camp.
The USA are taking aim at a fifth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics and have one of their best rosters of all time. One opposing coach, Serbia's Svetislav Pesic, believes the Americans have an even better squad than the 1992 Dream Team!
While Curry, a two-time FIBA Basketball World Cup winner, four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors and a a surefire Hall of Fame Player one day, is about to make his Olympic bow, the Americans have a slew of gold medal winners.
Among them is the most prolific scorer in the annals of USA Basketball, three-time Olympic champion Kevin Durant (2012, 2016 and 2021). There is LeBron James, a gold medalist at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Games.
There is 2012 Olympic champion Anthony Davis, and from the team that won just a few years ago, in addition to Durant are Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum.
And if that list of superstars isn't enough to get fans excited, there are also 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, two-time NBA champions and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and a couple of superstars from last year's World Cup team, Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton.
The training camp begins on Tuesday (July 6) in Las Vegas, and USA host Canada on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena to open the USA Basketball Showcase.
The Americans then have an international training window that begins when they host Australia and Serbia on July 15 and 17, respectively, at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Next, the USA Basketball Showcase is at London's O2 Arena where the USA men take on South Sudan on July 20 and Germany on July 22.
At the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024, USA have their first game in Group C on July 28 against Serbia, who finished runners-up at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. The USA also know they will take on Olympic first-timers South Sudan on July 31, and the national team that wins the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico on August 3.
