World Cup winners Germany are ready for the Olympics

Will Germany follow up their remarkable summer of 2023, when they captured the FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time, by reaching the Olympic podium? We're about to find out.

HAGEN (Germany) - Coach Gordon Herbert has decided on the 12 players that will try to capture a World Cup and Olympic double for Germany.

Ten members of the title-winning World Cup team will play in France. The only additions to the group are Nick Weiler-Babb and Oscar da Silva.

Weiler-Babb, coming off a strong finish to the German BBL season with champions FC Bayern, is no stranger to the national team. He played a big role for Germany when they finished third at FIBA EuroBasket 2022.

Da Silva played for Germany's youth teams, and featured for the national team in the last window for the EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.

Captain Dennis Schroder will make his Olympic bow. He did not play a few years ago when Germany won the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Split before going to Tokyo and reaching the Quarter-Finals.

In addition to Schroder, Weiler-Babb and Da Silva, star forward Franz Wagner and center Daniel Theis will make Olympic debuts.

Wagner was the MVP of last year's World Cup Final triumph over Serbia.

Tokyo Olympians Moritz Wagner, Maodo Lo, Isaac Bonga, Niels Giffey, Andreas Obst, Johannes Voigtmann, Johannes Thiemann are in the team.

Germany will play in Group B with France, Japan and Brazil.
