KIGALI (Rwanda) - Hungary defeated Senegal 63-47 to be crowned champions of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournament held in Rwanda.
The new champions concluded their campaign with a 4-1 record and secured the only ticket on offer for the next FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to take place in March 2026.
Virag Kiss led Hungary with a team-high of 17 points off the bench, Veronika Kanyasi and Bernadett finished with 10 points apiece and Hungary bolstered their chances of fighting for a place at the 2026 Women's Basketball World Cup to be held in Berlin, Germany.
On the way to their crowning, Hungary lost to Senegal (63-61), but they bounced back with wins over Philippines (97-60), Brazil (87-66), Great Britain (82-59) and Senegal (63-47).
After two straight wins - against Lebanon and Argentina - hosts Rwanda fell short Great Britain in the last game of Group D before coming short against Senegal (68-65) in the Semi-Final.
Just like Rwanda, Great Britain returned home with a 2-2 mark.
