MIAMI (United States) – The group stage for the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2025, set to be played in Chile from June 28 to July 6, has been finalized following the official draw held this Wednesday, March 26, in Miami, USA. Here are the draw results:
Group A
1. Dominican Republic 2. Argentina 3. Canada 4. El Salvador 5. Brazil
Group B
1. Mexico 2. Colombia 3. United States 4. Chile 5. Puerto Rico
The draw process was conducted by Carlos Alves, Executive Director of FIBA’s Regional Office in the Americas, while honorary guests—Puerto Rico’s Carla Cortijo, Brazil’s Iziane Castro, and the United States’ Sylvia Fowles, all legendary former players from the region—were also part of the event. Before the draw, the 10 participating teams were divided into five pots, each containing two spheres, based on the current FIBA Women's World Ranking, presented by Nike. Additionally, two extra pots, each containing numbers 1 through 5, were used to determine the position of each team within their group and the order of the games. Chile, as the host country, was automatically placed in Group B, in position B4. As a result, El Salvador was assigned to Group A. The remaining teams were drawn and allocated to either Group A or Group B.
During the Group Phase of the competition, each team will play one game against every opponent in their group. The top four teams from each group will advance to the Quarterfinals. The eight quarterfinalists will be paired based on their final ranking in the Group Phase. The quarterfinals winners will then advance to the Semifinals round where they would compete for a spot into the Gold Medal game, while the losing teams will play for the Bronze Medal. This will be the 18th edition of the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, the most prestigious women's national team tournament in the continent. Brazil is the defending champion, having claimed the title in Mexico 2023. The winner of Chile 2025 will directly secure a spot in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026, which will be played in Germany.
