Who were the stars on opening day in Cairo?

    Review

Two Ugandans and two Egyptians stole the show at Cairo's Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall on Monday.

CAIRO (Egypt) - The Women's AfroBasket Qualifiers for Zone 5 nations got underway in Cairo on Monday with four players stealing the limelight with stellar performances.

In this article, we take a look at who the stars were and what they did on the opening day in the Egyptian capital.

    Jane Asinde (Uganda)

The Uganda Gazelles captain put her vast experience to good use, scoring 24 points, her highest score of the day.

She added nine rebounds, one shy of the competition's first double-double. She added four assists and an equal number of steals for an efficiency rating of 24.

    Shakira Nanvubya (Uganda)

JKL Lady Dolphins' Nanvubya was the Gazelles' second best player, finishing with an efficiency rating of 18 after scoring 14 points, one more than Paige Robinson.

She added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals to her tally, while drawing seven fouls.

Nanvubya shot 100% in the paint (3 of 3), made two from behind the arc, but only made two of seven from the charity stripe.

    Nadine Mohamed (Egypt)

The Al Ahly Sporting Club guard scored 22 points in just over 21 minutes, hitting six three-pointers and adding two baskets in the paint.

Four steals, three rebounds and an assist gave her an efficiency rating of 23 in a game she finished without picking up a foul.

    Raneem Elgedawy (Egypt)

The centre finished two rebounds shy of a double-double after scoring 20 points, the second-highest tally for the defending champions coached by Amr Elmaraghy.

She added three steals and one assist to finish with an efficiency rating of 18. She shot 38.5% from the paint (5/13), a clear indication that the 27-year-old still has plenty left in the tank.
