CAIRO (Egypt) - In addition to the race for the 2025 Women's AfroBasket solo ticket, a number of talented players are starting to have their names in the MVP conversation.
And Game Day 4 was a clear example of how much talent is on display in the Cairo qualifiers. Meet the stars who shone brightest on Wednesday at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall:
Jane Asinde (Uganda)
China-based Asinde has been the glue that holds the Uganda Gazelles together with one spectacular performance after another and her display against her former coach's side, Bright Starlets of South Sudan, was no different.
In just under 38 minutes, the Gazelles captain had 28 points, nine rebounds, two assists and as many steals and blocks to top the charts with a competition-high efficiency rating of 29.
She is the tournament's top scorer with 70 points in three games, averaging 23.3 points and 10.7 rebounds.
Victoria Reynolds (Kenya)
Her anticipation for steals has put her at the top of that statistic, and the 27-year-old's performance against Burundi was no different as she added six to her tally on a night when she scored 22 points in 35:41 minutes.
She was 3-of-7 from behind the arc. She also dished out seven assists, taking her average to 6.7 per game, and pulled down three boards, giving her a team-high 24 in efficiency.
After three games, she is second on the scoring charts with 54 points, 16 behind Asinde and ahead of Uganda's Paige Robinson.
Vilma Owino (Kenya)
Power forward Owino saw just 11:38 of action in the final half of the third and the opening minutes of the fourth, but her impact was immediate.
She scored a quick 12 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and adding two from the charity stripe.
Owino added three rebounds and as many steals, while dishing out two assists for the team's second-highest efficiency rating of 17. Her previous four points came in the six minutes she played in Kenya's loss to Uganda, where she also had three off the boards.
Hope Akello (Uganda)
The veteran forward scored 12 points to come within a rebound of a double-double as the Gazelles dominated South Sudan to keep their qualification hopes alive.
She shot 5-of-9 from the field and added two assists and a steal for an efficiency rating of 18, all in 33:40 minutes.
