ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - The next edition of the FIBA Women's AfroBasket won't happen until August next year, but the race to secure the remaining eight spots starts to heat up across the continent.
DR Congo and Cameroon will be the first two nations to take to floor in a two-game series in Yaounde from August 20.
Of the eight nations that form FIBA Africa Zone 4, only hosts Cameroon and DR Congo registered to try and compete for a place at the 12-nation Women's AfroBasket.
According to FIBA Africa, other regional qualifiers for a chance to play in the biennial event will take place between November 2024 and February 2025.
So far, the only teams qualified for next year's Women's AfroBasket are reigning champions Nigeria, Senegal - who finished second in the 2023 edition of the tournament - bronze medallist Mali and Rwanda who finished fourth.
The FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2025 will take pace in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
