    Teams, pots confirmed ahead of FIBA WASL season 2024/2025 draw

    The excitement builds with confirmed key dates and details.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The 2024-25 FIBA West Asia Super League (FIBA WASL) season is all set to be in action. with the draw and opening dates now confirmed.

    The FIBA Regional Office Asia confirmed on Tuesday that the Group Phase Draw will be held online on Friday, October 4.

    FIBA WASL - Gulf League is scheduled to start on October 14, while FIBA WASL - West Asia League will begin on December 4, due to the current severe security situation across some West Asia countries.

    Pots for the draw have also been confirmed, with 8 teams to be drawn into 2 groups in FIBA WASL - Gulf League and 6 teams to be drawn into 2 groups in FIBA WASL - West Asia League.

    Reigning Champions of BCL Asia, Final 8, FIBA WASL - West Asia League, and the Lebanese Basketball League, Al Riyadi, are placed in Pot 1, alongside Iranian champions and newcomers, Tabiat. In Pot 2, Syria's Al Wahda SC returns, joined by Iraqi debutants Al Difaa Al Jawi SC. Another team making a debut are Amman United from Jordan, who will be in Pot 3.

    Returning Final 8 finalists Sagesse from Lebanon will be automatically drawn into the opposite group of local Lebanese rivals Al Riyadi.

    In WASL – Gulf League, the finalists from the previous season - champions Kuwait SC from Kuwait and Manama Club from Bahrain - are both placed in Pot 1. Pot 2 features BCL Asia finalist Shabab Al Ahli from UAE and newcomers Ittihad Club from Saudi Arabia. Al Bashaer Club from Oman, who competed in the inaugural WASL season, returns in Pot 3, alongside debutants Al Arabi SC from Qatar.

    There will also be two new teams completing the groups with Al Qadsia SC from Kuwait being automatically drawn to the opposite group of Kuwait SC, while Al Ahli Club from Bahrain will be automatically drawn to the opposite group of Manama Club.

    Gulf League games will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, while West Asia League games will be played on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Teams will compete in a round robin, home & away system, against each of the teams in their respective groups.

    The first-place teams in each Sub-Zone League group will qualify directly for the Semi-Finals. The second and third-placed teams will face each other in a play-in to secure a spot in the Semi-Finals.

    Teams will play a best-of-3 series during February, with the home-court advantage to the second-placed teams. The four winners across both Sub-Zone Leagues will join the teams who topped their respective groups and earned direct Semi-Final spots.
