France repeat as FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket champions

    The back-to-back triumphs for France both came in Lithuania

    France won the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket title for the fifth time in the competition's history.

    VILNIUS (Lithuania) - France celebrated their second successive FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket title, defeating Spain in the Final of the 2024 edition to complete the back-to-back triumphs on Sunday.

    After fighting back from a slow start, the French had the upper hand for the majority of the game and came away with an 83-75 victory with Manoe Cisse leading the way with 21 points and Marine Durus chipping in with 17.

    Spain's Awa Fam named MVP despite loss in Final

    Spain's Awa Fam, who went on to be named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, posted a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double in a losing effort in the Final.

    The All-Star Five was completed by her Spain teammate Elena Buenavida, Marine Darsus of France, Frieda Buhner from Germany and Matilde Villa of Italy.

    Villa's dominance was also visible in the Third-Place Game, as she paced Italy past Germany for the last spot on the podium with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and a pair of steals.

    The three bottom-ranked teams – Hungary, Serbia and Finland – were relegated and will be replaced in next year's Division A event by FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B winners Netherlands, runners-up Belgium and Czechia, who finished third in Sofia, Bulgaria.
