PITESTI (Romania) - Romania added another chapter of basketball history as they won the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2024, Division B, beating Ukraine 80-58 for the second title in this age group in their history.
Romania, who also claimed the trophy in 2017 as hosts, will be playing in Division A next summer for just the third time following 1992 and 2018.
Romania started pulling away in the second quarter, leading 43-30 at halftime and then took the third frame 21-13 to finish off Ukraine.
Denis Badalau led the way with 22 points and 6 rebounds; Andrei Oinaru scored 14 points and Dragos Lungu chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pavlo Karasov had 11 points in a losing effort.
Finland will return to Division A for the first time since 2016 after knocking off Netherlands 73-56 in the Third Place Game. The northern Europeans took control of the game in the second quarter by out-scoring Netherlands 20-8 in the frame.
Oliver Kanden paced four Finnish players in double figures with 17 points while Juuso Salmi flirted with a triple-double as he collected 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
Stef Van Bussel had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Netherlands, who were hoping to get back to Division A. They have only played one summer in Division A in 2010.
