Nine players that impressed during the Group Phase in Matosinhos

    The future stars of European basketball are making a strong impression at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket.

    MATOSINHOS (Portugal) - The Group Phase of the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket 2024 is right behind us and there were lots of exciting moments during the first three days of competition.

    As teams get ready for their Round of 16 matchups, we've selected nine players who made a strong impression during the Group Phase in Matosinhos.

    Clara Silva - Portugal

    Center

    Birth Date: May 31, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.98m (6ft 6in) Tournament Stats: 20.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 3.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, 2.3 BPG The host nation have impressively started 3-0 in the Group Phase and Clara Silva has been pivotal in this run. Out of Unicaja SD, she is leading all scorers and in efficiency at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket. Silva's efficiency rating peaked at 33 and her plus minus 21, proving unstoppable against Germany with 28 points in 28 minutes and recording a double-double against Italy with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

    Nell Angloma - France

    Forward

    Birth Date: June 12, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.85m (6ft 1in) Tournament Stats: 19.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2.7 SPG, 0.7 BPG

    Nell Angloma is yet to play over 22 minutes in a game at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, yet sits second in scoring as her nation France have all but dominated opponents to start 3-0. The leading prospect gets most of her work done inside, proving a problem against Israel and Finland thus far where she dropped 26 points and 24 points, respectively.

    Awa Fam - Spain

    Center

    Birth Date: June 17, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.92m (6ft 4in) Tournament Stats: 13.0 PPG, 11.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG

    Awa Fam has already shown her prowess earning the MVP honor at the recent FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket and is now looking to collect the honours at her own age group. Spain are looking to better their third-place finish from last year and are on track so far, starting 3-0. The Lointek Gernika Bizkaia center has been a big part of that, currently sitting second in rebounding after recording a huge 18-point, 17-rebound double-double against Türkiye. She wastes little around the basket, currently averaging 73.9 percent from the field.

    Iyana Martin Carrion - Spain

    Point Guard

    Birth Date: Jan 18, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.74m (5ft 9in) Tournament Stats: 14.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 5.0 APG, 2.3 SPG, 1.0 BPG Also formidable on the Spain roster has been Iyana Martin Carrion. The Perfumerias Avenida playmaker sits third in assists at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, including dishing out 7 along with 17 points against Türkiye. Her scoring sits 11th overall as she has scored at least double-digits in every game, as well as recorded at least 2 steals. MVP at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023, Martin Carrion could play a key role for Spain heading into the knockout stages.

    Petra Bozan - Croatia

    Center

    Birth Date: Feb 10, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.92m (6ft 4in) Tournament Stats: 16.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.7 BPG Despite Croatia finishing with a 1-2 Group Phase record, Petra Bozan has performed consistently well throughout the tournament thus far. Ranked ninth in scoring and fourth in rebounding, she has exerted herself including a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double in a victory over Poland. Bozan's other two games have been near double-doubles as she collected 9 rebounds in each and a personal tournament high 21 points against Belgium, doing so while ranked in the top-five in efficiency.

    Lilli Onnela - Finland

    Guard

    Birth Date: Jan 27, 2006 (18 years old) Height: 1.84m (6ft 0in) Tournament Stats: 17.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.7 SPG, 1.3 BPG Lilli Onnela led her nation to a winning record of 2-1 in the Group Phase - and ranks in the top five scoring thus far. Her standout performance came in a win over Israel with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks - showing she can contribute across the board. The 18-year-old is also ranked as the most efficient guard at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket after the Group Phase, which included going a perfect 13 of 13 from the free-throw line.

    Emma Giacchetti - Italy

    Point Guard

    Birth Date: Mar 18, 2007 (17 years old) Height: 1.78m (5ft 10in) Tournament Stats: 17.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 4.7 APG, 2.3 SPG, 1.0 BPG Emma Giacchetti was previously recognised for her playmaking abilities at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2023 and has been making a crucial impact off the bench for Italy this tournament, too. She ranks fifth in scoring and fourth in assists, including a dominating performance of 24 points, 6 assists, five three-pointers, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks in a win over Serbia. It is a great learning experience for the 17-year-old prospect, who would be eligible to return to the tournament again next year.

    Gal Raviv - Israel

    Guard

    Birth Date: Dec 25, 2006 (17 years old) Tournament Stats: 18.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 5.3 APG, 3.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG Second in assists, third in scoring and top 20 in rebounding, another 17-year-old Gal Raviv has been contributing across the board for Israel despite their 1-2 losing Group Phase record. The guard went toe-to-toe with Onnela in the Finland matchup, recording a near double-double of 24 points and 9 assists with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and will look to continue a solid showing heading into the Round of 16.

    Maja Uranker - Slovenia

    Guard

    Birth Date: Oct 17, 2007 (16 years old) Height: 1.83m (6ft 0in) Tournament Stats: 16.7 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.0 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG Holders Slovenia haven't had much to celebrate with a 1-2 losing record in the Group Phase, but they can be pleased with the performances of a rising star amongst their ranks.

    Playing above her age group, Maja Uranker has shown her scoring abilities - currently ranked inside the top 10. This has included an ability to get to the line, averaging 5.7 free-throws per game, as well as an ability to shoot from beyond the arc having sank six three-pointers so far.
