    MATOSINHOS (Portugal) - The opening day of the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket saw hosts Portugal get off to a winning start, while defending champions Slovenia were overwhelmed in a statement win by Spain.

    • Holders Slovenia comfortably beaten by last year's third placed side Spain;

    • France came out the blocks hot with a convincing win over Luxembourg;

    Lilli Onnela put Finland in a good position to build from after recording 21 points, 8 rebounds 4 assists with an opening day high efficiency rating of 26.

    Finland grabbed 23 more boards than their opponents Israel, in part due to the dominating presence of Nicole Ogun who recorded a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds to go with 4 assists.

    These impressive Finnish performances overcame Israel's Gal Raviv, despite the guard posting a game-high 24 points along with 9 assists and 5 rebounds on an equally impressive efficiency rating of 26.

    France had the biggest margin win of the day and it was Tea Cleante who got to work in her 18 minutes of action with 17 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds on an efficiency rating of 24 after making all three of her three-point shots.

    It was a perfect day from the field for Clara Bielefeld of Germany, who went four-of-four and grabbed one of the three double-doubles on the day with 10 points and 14 rebounds on a 25 efficiency rating, also contributing 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
