Czechia earn promotion alongside Montenegro with stunning game-winner

    Incredible drama sees Czechia into the Final where they will take on Montenegro.

    PLOIESTI (Romania) - Montenegro and Czechia secured promotion to Division A after winning in the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, 2024 Division B Semi-Finals and will compete for the title on Sunday. The third and final promotion spot will also be decided on Sunday between the two Semi-Final losers Bulgaria and Greece.

    Czechia, will return to Division A in 2025 following relegation in 2023 after they beat out Greece 50-47 with a dramatic game-winning three from halfcourt from Emilie Brzonova.

    Greece had tied the game at 47-all with 42 seconds to go, making their only three of 18 attempts having rallied in the fourth quarter, but Czechia saved face thanks to the clutch three.

    Ela Zidkova led the way by chipping in 15 points and 9 points on 5 of 7 shooting.

    Earlier, there was little sign of fatigue from Montenegro after their thrilling overtime Semi-Final win the previous day, as they led for 28 minutes of the game to secure a 56-50 victory over Bulgaria.

    Montenegro dominated on the inside, collecting 23 offensive rebounds compared to Bulgaria's 7, which led to 15 second chance points and 34 points in the paint overall. Their most prolific scorer, with a near double-double, was Jelena Bulajic who posted 26 points and 9 rebounds. It will be the nation's first time participating in the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, Division A next summer.

    Elsewhere, Lithuania and Great Britain both secured victories in the Classification 5-8 round to set up a meeting for fifth spot on the final day.
