Rising stars: Who were the women's Youth EuroBasket standouts in 2024?

    A number of impressive stat lines were achieved during Youth EuroBasket events in 2024.

    MUNICH (Germany) - As the FIBA Youth EuroBasket events wrapped up this summer, it's time to spotlight the standout individual performances from the young stars in Divisions A and B.

    There were a number of rising talents who seized the moment, delivering remarkable performances in scoring, rebounding, assisting, three-point shooting, steals, and blocks, firmly establishing themselves as future stars.

    Annie Kibedi of Belgium dominated the scoring charts in 2024

    Annie Kibedi proved to be the best scorer of the girl's summer events. Belgium's scoring machine came up with two of the best performances in that regard with 36 and 35 points scored in a three-day span at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket. She was also the top scorer of the event with 20.7 points per game.

    Israel's Dorian Dahan Sujic and Apostolia Zormpala of Greece followed with 34-point games each, with nine games of 30 points or more recorded across the board.

    Rebounds

    Laura Vilcinskas impressed with 22 rebounds for Belgium one occasion

    Belgium were packed with individual talent at the U16 Women's EuroBasket as Laura Vilcinskas provided the top rebounding game of the summer in addition to Kibedi's leading the scoring charts. Vilcinskas grabbed 22 boards and was one of only two players to get at least 20 rebounds, alongside Joyce Isi Etute of Luxembourg at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket.

    However, Division B provided an even higher mark in that regard with Austria's U18 starlet Jada Bobb and Emma Cechova of Czechia's U20 team grabbing 23 rebounds each.

    Croatia's Nika Rodek registered a summer-high 14 assists at the U20 EuroBasket, Division B

    Croatia and its guards dominated the assists charts in every regard as the best performances in Division A and Division B both come from the same country. Lena Bilic dished out 12 dimes for her team at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, but Nika Rodek surpassed that with a summer-high 14 assists at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket, Division B.

    As far as Division A is concerned, Montenegro's Mila Kovacevic came one dime shy of Bilic's record with 11 assists at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket. She also added an 10-assist game with two other girls who matched that - Latvia's Enija Viksne and Clara Bielefeld of Germany.

    Mika Kanitz of Israel shot the lights out with eight threes made

    Similar to men's competitions, the best three-point shooting performance for the women also came at the U16 level. Israel's Mika Kanitz sank eight shots from beyound the arc at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket as Greece's Apostolia Zormpala made one long-range shot less against Latvia at the same event.

    One other girl managed to make seven threes in a single game this summer, as Eleonora Villa of Italy did so at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket.

    Division B high: multiple players with six three-pointers made

    Steals

    Sam Daelemans of Belgium picked opponents' pockets 13 times in a single game

    Maya Zilbershlag of Israel took her defensive duties very seriously as she recorded the only Division A double-digit mark in steals. She picked her opponents' pockets 10 times at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket as Nala Koletzki of Germany came one steal shy of that record at the same event.

    However, the best performance of the summer came from Division B where Belgium's Sam Daelemans recorded an impressive 13 steals at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket, Division B.

    Hungary's Dominika Baa and Kathy-Emma Otto of France also deserve to be mentioned as they recorded seven steals two times each in the Division A.

    Clara Silva of Portugal provided a joint-high six blocks in a single game

    It was a very tight competition this summer in the blocked shots department. Romana Jelenc of Slovenia and Clara Silva from Portugal clearly stood out from the rest with six blocks each as Anna Liepina recorded a game with five blocked shots. There were 14 players who registered four blocks in a game.

    However, Sara Nicole Fritea of Romania came up with seven blocks at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket, Division B to one-up her Division A rivals for the summer high.
