PRETORIA (South Africa) - The numbers are out as we approach the halfway mark of the tournament, and the results of the first games start to suggest how this biennial event might end up.
As we head to Sunday's four games, all twelve teams have played two games each.
And after twelve games, three teams remain undefeated while - on the other side of the spectrum - three others are yet to win a game.
What do the first results show?
On paper, undefeated Egypt, Mali and Tunisia look strong enough to be labelled podium contenders, but it's far too early to make judgement as to who will make it all the way to the semis.
Quarter-Finals come next
Sitting in pole position for a place in the Quarter-Finals are group leaders, Tunisia, Egypt and Mali who are all 2-0 each.
Except for Mali - who return to action on Monday - both Egypt and Tunisia take to the floor on Sunday to face Zimbabwe (0-2) and hosts South Africa (0-2).
With a 1-1 mark each, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola, Morocco, Nigeria and Uganda should have a say in race to the last eight.
Must-Watch games
In the build-up to the last action of the Group Phase, here are three MUST-WATCH GAMES.
Group C - Uganda v Nigeria (September 8) Group A - Cameroon v Rwanda (September 8) Group B - Mali v Morocco (September 9)
What does the competition system rule say?
The winners and second-placed teams of each group (A, B and C) qualify automatically to the Quarter-Finals where they will be joined by the best third-place team.
Who is out, Who is in to the knock out stages?
Mathematically speaking, we'll only find out who will be relegated to the Classification Round after the next six games (four on Sunday, September 8) and two on Monday (September 9).
Stats don't lie
Winners of four of the last five editions of the tournament, Mali not only registered a tournament-high 135 points by demolishing Zambia 135-13, but they also average 93.5 points per game, that's 7 points more than second highest scorer Rwanda (86.5) and 10 more than Nigeria (83.5).
Debutant Cameron may be 1-1, but no other team has rebounded better than them (65 boards per game).
In terms of ball movement, Mali share the ball at the highest rate, averaging 23 assists per game, that's 3 more dimes than Egypt, who register the second best assist rating.
With a lot of work to do in terms of handling the ball, South Africa recorded a tournament-high of 74 turnovers in 107-23 defeat to Cameroon.
