    Azerbaijan, Luxembourg set the stage for the title showdown

    The tournament in Elbasan nears its climax following two exciting Semi-Finals encounters.

    ELBASAN (Albania) - Azerbaijan and Luxembourg advanced to the Final of the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024, Division C where they will battle it out for the title on Sunday in Elbasan.

    2016 champions Azerbaijan secured their spot in the last showdown with a comfortable 62-41 win over hosts Albania, as Luxembourg emerged victorious from their overtime bout against Armenia with 85-78.

    Azerbaijan set the stage early, built their nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter, and then erased all doubts with an overwhelming 21-4 run in the third period. Derin Berkoz led the way for the victors with 18 points, 6 steals, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

    Armenia had control of the game throughout the first 30 minutes, but the 7-0 run from Luxembourg in the fourth quarter put them in the three-point lead with two minutes remaining.

    Luxembourg's Konan Oth led the way into the Final

    Overtime would ultimately ensue, and six unanswered points from Luxembourg proved to be decisive as the three-time bronze medalists secured their place in a first-ever Final. Konan Oth was the hero of the game with a monstrous double-double of 26 points and 19 rebounds.

    Earlier, Moldova secured a 83-71 victory over Gibraltar in Classification Group 5-7. That defeat puts Gibraltar in the seventh place as Moldova and San Marino will battle it out for the fifth spot on Sunday.
