LEON - IRAPUTO (Mexico) - Ahead of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup swinging into action, we've been hard at work checking out the key numbers and stats that you need to know.
Here's our selection of just some of them.
5 - The number of titles USA have already landed
Count them up! It's 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2022 and now they are chasing number six! Their performance in Minsk, Belarus was typically rampant!
40 - The most individual points ever scored in a game
A performance for the ages, Angela Salvadores of Spain not only dropped 40 points and became the first player to reach this landmark in the competition's history, she did it against the mighty USA and also in the Final itself. Incredible!
4 - The number of new teams stepping out at this edition
It always feels special to welcome new nations to any global event and this year there are no fewer than four first-timers. Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Finland and Puerto Rico will all enjoy a debut this year.
133 - The highest ever points tally by any team in a game
It speaks for itself and took place at the very first edition back in 2010 when the USA overwhelmed Japan in a big way. Two years later in Amsterdam, they were just one basket away from a repeat or potential new high as they dropped 131 against Korea!
10 - The most number of triples sunk in a game by a baller
It was the red-hot hand of Maria Alvarez of Colombia that saw her become the first baller to reach double-digits in triples. She made 10 three-pointers as part of her 35-point haul against Belarus, which still remains as the third-best in tournament history.
2 - The number of nations that have lifted the coveted silverware
Only USA and Australia know what it's like to stand on top of the podium with gold medals around their necks and hearing their anthem ringing out. USA have won every edition except in 2016 when the Sapphires took the title, beating USA in the Semi's and finishing the job in the Final against Italy.
46 - The highest performance efficiency score in history
Step forward Toby Fournier of Canada who racked up this absolutely jaw-dropping historical high two years ago in Hungary. She was unstoppable against Korea and attained that staggering 46 efficiency off the back of 32 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks and a viral dunk! (Not that this gave her any extra bonus efficiency points!)
9 - The blocks needed in a game to set a new swat record
There are two ballers tied up at the top of the all-time chart with 8 blocks each. Lauren Cox set the record and the standard back at the 2014 edition for USA and made it an even more special contribution by doing it against Spain in the title game itself. At the last edition, Cassandre Prosper of Canada equalled the record with an impressive 8 against the USA.
26 - The biggest ever individual clean up on the glass
Jana Elalfy put her name bang in the center of the global basketball map two years ago in Debrecen with some spectacular performances. That included a phenomenal all-time high 26 rebounds for Egypt in their clash with New Zealand. She then followed it up with even more super shows when she caught fire at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023.
1.2 million - The number of Insta followers for a former player
Underlining how this competition is a springboard for greater things, both career-wise and also in terms of profile, exposure and generating into a major athlete and star, Sabrina Ionescu now has 1.2 million followers on Instagram. She played at the 2014 edition on her way to winning gold, while Jada Williams who balled at the last edition is still a teenager and already has more than 650,000 followers on the social media platform.
