LEON & IRAPUATO (Mexico) - Hatoumata Singare delivered a standout performance with 12 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals, leading Mali to a thrilling 62-61 victory over Mexico on the opening day of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Mexico.
Her tenacity on the boards was evident as she grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, tying the single-game record. The record was set nearly two years ago to this date on July 17, 2022 when Egypt's Jana Elalfy grabbed the same amount of offensive boards against New Zealand.
Singare's relentless effort carried her team through a nail-biting finish, helping Mali secure their first win of the tournament. She will certainly be one to watch as the competition progresses to Day 2 and onward. Mali next take on Italy in Group B action.
