MISKOLC (Hungary) - The curtain will soon be raised on the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024 in the Hungarian city of Miskolc, with plenty of ballers ready to bring the noise at the event.
You can vote below for which player you think will make the biggest impact in this year's competition.
Make sure to also check out who to watch in the Division B tournament, which will be taking place in Konya, Türkiye.
Isabel Mohamud Mohamed Hassan - Italy
CENTER
Birth Date: June 14, 2009 (15 years old) Height: 1.82m (6ft 0in)
A tremendously powerful frontcourt operator and super prospect long-term for Italy, Hassan showed her strength inside at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024. She came close to a tournament double-double with more than 14 points and 7 rebounds per game. 2009 born, she has the opportunity to play U16 again next summer which is very exciting.
Somtochukwu-Blessed Okafor - Spain
SMALL FORWARD
Birth Date: September 11, 2008 (15 years old) Height: 1.76m (5ft 9in)
The athleticism, strength and skills of Okafor means she could be on the early radar for potential MVP if Spain makes their usual deep run. She has won a stack of accolades at youth level playing with the famous Sigle XXI club. Okafor is also great in transition and can skip through traffic to the hoop from the wing which makes her difficult to guard for opposing defenders.
Lilli Schultze - Germany
FORWARD
Birth Date: December 13, 2008 (15 years old) Height: 1.89m (6ft 2in)
The forward was leading scorer for Germany at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket Division B last summer when she was a major factor in taking them to the top flight. Her finishing at the hoop was superb and as one of only two players into double-digits for her team, she shot almost 60 percent from the field and did the hard yards with six boards per game too.
Annie Kibedi - Belgium
FORWARD
Birth Date: May 24, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.85m (6ft 1in)
Catching the eye at last year's edition, the forward's quick hands, athleticsm and ability to be impactful at both ends of the court was a difference-maker. Kibdei posted a near tournament double-double of 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, so with this in mind, perhaps she can target an All-Star Five place this time around if the young Cats do well. She's a super prospect.
Maya Zilbershlag - Israel
FORWARD
Birth Date: February 8, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.80m (5ft 11in)
It's an exclusive club the Israeli star is joining as one of very few players who have stepped out at the event three times. Zilbershlag will be the centerpiece of her team's challenge this time. She has twice posted a double-digit points return and is very strong coming in off the wing to crash the boards. Leadership material, her teammates will look to her for inspiration.
Sindija Miscenko - Latvia
GUARD
Birth Date: January 19, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.65m (5ft 5in)
At first glance of her production last year when she represented Latvia, there is barely anything registered of note. However, the guard has made huge strides in the past year and put up good numbers on the domestic scene, as well as posting a fantastic Baltic Cup display earlier this year. This time around she has the chance to elevate herself into leader material.
Emili Melnikova- Finland
GUARD
Birth Date: June 1, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.70m (5ft 7in)
Finland are on a roll after their fourth place finish in 2023 and subsequent historic first ever FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup appearance last month. Building on that legacy will be tough, but it might be scoring machine Melnikova that helps them. She averaged a massive 25 points per game in her domestic league last season so knows where the bucket it.
Nika Blagus - Slovenia
FORWARD
Birth Date: September 11, 2008 (15 years old) Height: 1.84m (6ft 1in)
The forward will look to push the reset button after a stone cold first FIBA event last summer. There were high hopes since she was WABA League U15 MVP, but things didn't go her way. Since that false start, she's played for Cinkarna Celje senior team and made improvements to her game. A forward with shooting range, she should make more of a splash at this edition.
Nika Gazic - Croatia
FORWARD
Birth Date: May 7, 2008 (16 years old) Height: 1.87m (6ft 2in)
Without making an impression at last year's edition, Gazic played an important cameo for Croatia at this year's historic debut showing at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024. The forward scored 7 points per game and will be looking to increase this output to double-digits in Miskolc. She also has good hands a nice IQ which is helpful defensively.
Emma Broliron - France
GUARD
Birth Date: December 4, 2008 (15 years old) Height: 1.67m (5ft 6in)
An outstanding guard who is still only 15-years old but played at last year's edition and also at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, Broliron is potential MVP material in Miskolc. Crafty, always moving and staying active, she will be a deal-breaker with her exquisite eye for a pass and her quick feet on defense. If France push for a medal, she will be a driving force.
