    Romania's Velcea leads All-Star Five after being named MVP

    Ioana-Vanessa Velcea picked up the Most Valuable Player honors

    Ioana-Vanessa Velcea shone brightest at the tournament to take the MVP crown.

    KONYA (Türkiye) - Ioana-Vanessa Velcea took the honor of being crowned MVP of the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B after taking home the title.

    Romania's scoring machine headlines the All-Star Five of the event, which also includes Barbora Subova, Athena Thompson, Gabija Galvanauskaite and Berfin Sahin.

    MVP: Ioana-Vanessa Velcea - Romania

    Leading her nation to the title, the point guard played her role to perfection. Able to score consistently while also getting teammates involved, she finished fifth in tournament scoring and second in assists. Overall, she averaged 18.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

    Barbora Subova - Czechia

    Able to lead her team to the Final and thus promotion, Subova had 11 points and 8 rebounds in the Final as her team fought to the end. The power forward was top 20 in both points and rebounding as she averaged 11.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists at the event.

    Athena Thompson - Great Britain

    Thompson proved to be a bucket in the tournament, leading scoring and creating a feared offense along with scoring duo Irene Oboavwoduo. Her production was enough to ensure promotion for Great Britain as she averaged 22.6 points, 5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest.

    Gabija Galvanauskaite - Lithuania

    Despite missing out on the medal places, Lithuania had a 6-1 tournament record only losing to eventual winners Romania. Galvanauskaite was a big part of that with her contributions in scoring and rebounding, finishing second in tournament rebounding overall. She put up four double-doubles and averaged 13.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

    Berfin Sahin - Türkiye

    Showing out on home soil, Sahin too was dominant on the boards grabbing three double-doubles throughout the tournament. Türkiye narrowly missed out on promotion losing to Great Britain in the Third Place Game, but Sahin did her nation proud with 10.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
