    Romania claim Division B title; Great Britain promoted

    Romania won out in a very tight Final

    The FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B campaign concluded in Konya, Türkiye on Saturday.

    KONYA (Türkiye) - Romania were crowned champions at the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2024, Division B and Great Britain sealed the last promotion spot after victory in the Third Place Game.

    There was nothing between the eventual champions Romania and their Final opponents Czechia as the two nations went toe-to-toe and the game was decided by just two points 54-52.

    The lead changed hands 10 times throughout the matchup, including four times in the fourth quarter. Having made a free throw to extend their lead by two with 14 seconds left, Romania had to play defense on the final play of the game and forced Czechia into a tough shot after protecting the lane well to claim victory.

    Barbora Vyhlidova's efforts weren't enough for Czechia

    They were led by Alexia-Ioana Marcus who collected 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in the Final.

    Meanwhile, Barbora Vyhlidova put up a monster double-double of 17 points and 22 rebounds for an efficiency of 34 in a losing effort for the Czechs.

    Great Britain were promoted to Division A for the first time since their merger

    By winning bronze with a 84-62 victory over Türkiye, Great Britain secured promotion to Division A.

    The home nation failed to lead at any point in the game, with Great Britain's scoring duo of Athena Thompson and Irene Oboavwoduo combining for 39 points while Emma Briggs dropped a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
