GOLD COAST (Australia) – FIBA are thrilled to announce that Basketball Australia will host the FIBA Under 15 Oceania Cup, 2024.
The FIBA U15 Oceania Cup will take place at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from November 11-16, 2024.
“This event provides a platform for young players to showcase their talent, gain valuable international experience, and compete for a chance to represent their nation at the next level,” FIBA Executive Director – Oceania, Amanda Jenkins said.
The FIBA U15 Oceania Cup offers an opportunity for National Federations to claim the title of Oceania Champion, with the top two finishers securing coveted spots in the 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup and FIBA Women's U16 Asia Cup. Additionally, the third and fourth ranked women's teams from Oceania will qualify for the 2025 FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup Division B.
A Crucial Stepping Stone to the World Stage
The 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup competitions serve as qualifiers for the highly anticipated 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup.
FIBA Executive Director – Oceania, Amanda Jenkins said, “The pathway for youth teams in the Oceania region to progress through to Asia Qualifiers, and subsequently Youth World Cups, is a great opportunity for National Federations in the region to compete at the highest level.”
“Youth talent across the Oceania region is thriving with the boys and girls teams from Australia both ranked in the top five of the FIBA World Rankings presented by Nike. New Zealand are always consistent performers, and recently we have seen the rise of the girls national team from Samoa.”
2024 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup
This year Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga are all poised to contest the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup title as they strive for youth Asia Cup qualification and underage FIBA World Cup success.
The Australian men’s and women’s teams have dominated this event for the past six years with New Zealand ever so close to claiming the top spot. Since 2015, with the inclusion of other Oceania National Federations, Tahiti, Samoa, and Guam have all registered podium finishes.
