Poland looking for Sochan spark to reach Paris 2024

The Polish fans can't wait to see Sochan play for the country again.

WARSAW (Poland) - Poland are talking with Jeremy Sochan about playing for the national team this summer at FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Valencia, Spain.

The Polish fans must have been very happy seeing him sink the decisive three against the Suns last night in the NBA.

"JEREMY WANTS TO PLAY FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM, FOR POLAND, AND HE REALLY WANTS TO FIGHT FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES."

    Lukasz Koszarek, national team director

Sochan, in his second season with the San Antonio Spurs, played for Poland in 2021 in Valencia when the team competed in the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers. He scored 18 points and took 3 rebounds in a win against Romania.

Former Poland point guard Lukasz Koszarek, now the director of the national team, met with Sochan and the Spurs on a recent visit to the USA.

"Although no final declaration has been made, because it's not that time yet, we believe that we are very close to reaching an agreement," Koszarek said according to basketnews.com. "Jeremy wants to play for the national team, for Poland, and he really wants to fight for the Olympic Games. However, not everything depends on him.

"We have expressed our willingness to cooperate with the Spurs in every aspect so that Jeremy can join the squad in the summer. Of course, there are some conditions that I don't want to talk about yet.

"(But) I can reveal that the most important thing will be Jeremy's health. This is the key that will help us and him open new doors."

The competition at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament Valencia, staged July 2 to 7, will be fierce. Poland are in Group B with Finland and the Bahamas, while Spain, Lebanon and Angola are in Group A.

Only the country that wins will clinch a spot in the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024.
