Among the players on the final roster, six were featured on the team that played in Jakarta, Indonesia at the Asia Cup 2022. That Korea team recorded a historic win over China, but were knocked out in the Quarter-Finals by eventual bronze medalists New Zealand.
One of the top performers from the Asia Cup 2022 squad, Guna Ra (23.0 EFF, 19.3 points, 12.0 rebounds per game) is set to be back in action. Junyong Choi (12.5 EFF, 8.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 steals per game) was initially named in the pool of 12 players, but was later announced to be replaced by HongSeok Yang due to an injury.
Ra's output will be much needed right from the start as Korea are set to play against reigning Asia Cup champions Australia in Bendigo on 22 February at 18:30 (GMT +11). They will then face Thailand at home in Wonju on 25 February 15:00 (GMT +9).
Also among players to watch is 24-year-old JungHyun Lee who has been enjoying an impressive season in the Korea Basketball League (KBL) with Goyang Sono. The 1.9M (6'3") forward is averaging career-highs in points (20.0), rebounds (3.3), and assists (6.4) so far this year.
MooBeen Park is a youngster eyeing a potential senior national team debut after playing for Korea at the U18 Asia Cup 2018.
Korea are in Group A of the Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers along with the aforementioned Australia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Like the previous Asia Cup cycle, the 24 teams are divided into 6 groups of 4. Each team plays the other 3 teams on a home-and-away basis over 3 windows, with 2 games per window.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, making a total of 12 teams. The six 3rd-place teams from each group, meanwhile, will play in a Qualifying Tournament for Third-Placed Teams. The top four teams from this competition will secure the remaining spots at the Asia Cup.
