MIAMI (United States) – The Americas' FIBA Regional Office has announced that the official draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 will take place in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:00 PM (U.S. Eastern Time) and will be broadcast live on FIBA's official YouTube channel. The FIBA AmeriCup 2025 will be held from August 22 to August 31 at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua. This will be the 20th edition of the premier men’s national team tournament in the Americas. Nicaragua, as the host country, had an automatic berth, while the remaining countries participating are Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, United States and Venezuela.
Draw procedure
The 12 national teams will be divided into four pots, each containing three spheres, based on the current FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike: Pot 1: United States, Canada, and host Nicaragua Pot 2: Argentina, Brazil, and Puerto Rico Pot 3: Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Uruguay Pot 4: Bahamas, Colombia, and Panama Additionally, three extra pots, each containing numbers 1 to 4, will be used to determine the position of each team within their group and the order of games. The teams will be drawn into one of the following groups: Group A, Group B, or Group C. Each group may have a maximum of two teams from CONCENCABA or CONSUBASQUET. Nicaragua, as the host nation, will automatically be placed in Group C. United States and Canada, as the top-ranked teams, will be assigned to Group A and Group B, respectively. The remaining teams will be drawn and placed into Group A, Group B, or Group C.
Competition format
During the Group Phase, each team will play one game against all other teams within its group. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the Quarterfinals. The eight teams advancing to the Quarterfinals will be ranked from 1 to 8 based on their final position in the Group Phase. The Quarterfinals winners will then advance to the semifinals round where they would compete for a spot into the gold medal game, while the losing teams will play for the Bronze Medal. Argentina is the defending champion, having won the previous edition held in Brazil in 2022.
