LA HAVANA (Cuba) – Cuba had no trouble securing an important victory over the Bahamas (76-62) at the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva. With this win, they earned their second victory in the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers, climbing to second place in Group D.
Turning Point
The Bahamas scored the first basket of the game, but Cuba quickly tied it and took the lead and never relinquished. The Cuban squad outscored their opponents in each of the four quarters, gradually building a lead that allowed them to close the game with a comfortable double-digit advantage.
Player of the Game
Yoanki Mensia was the standout performer. The forward, who plays in Spain’s ACB league for Casademont Zaragoza, posted a stat line of 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Mensia played 35 minutes and shot 47% from the field. Cuba also saw strong contributions from Tito Casero (12 points and 5 rebounds) as well as Reynaldo García and Howard Sant-Ross, who each added 11 points.
For the Bahamas, Tavario Miller (17 points and 8 rebounds) and Rashad Davis (17 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals) were the top performers.
Stats Don’t Lie
In a game where collective stats were similar—and even favored the Bahamas in some areas—Cuba relied on offensive contributions from multiple players. Four Cuban players scored double digits, and two others added 8 and 9 points, respectively. For the Bahamas, all nine registered players scored, but just two accounted for 34 of their 62 total points.
Bottom Line
Cuba (2-1) now sits second in Group D alongside the United States (2-1). Both teams split their head-to-head matchups during Window 1 and are well-positioned to secure a spot in the FIBA AmeriCup 2025.
