From February 23-25, twelve teams split into Groups B, D and E will trade blows in Cairo and Monastir to start the race of the 20-nation AfroBasket Qualifiers. The remaining 8 teams that form Groups A and C will enter the action in the second window of the Qualifiers in November.
16 of the 20 teams entered the AfroBasket Qualifiers by virtue of competing in the last edition of the African Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda in 2021.
Madagascar and Libya clinched the first two of four tickets through the Pre-Qualifies. And the remaining two slots will be decided between South Africa vs Mozambique and Gabon vs Equatorial Guinea.
The 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers will be streamed live on FIBA’s Youtube Channel with a comprehensive additional coverage on FIBA Africa’s social media platforms.
As it stands, Cote d’Ivoire, who currently sit at No. 2 on the continent, emerge as the highest-ranked team to enter the race to FIBA Africa’s flagship event. South Sudan, the new No.1 team in Africa, will only open their qualifying campaign for their second straight AfroBasket later in the year.
Reigning AfroBasket champions Tunisia invited a number of veterans, including three-time African champion Makram Ben Romdhane, and two-time winner Radhouane Skimane with a clear aim of relaunching their continental title defense.
Tunisia, who enjoyed a dominant home-court supremacy between 2017 and 2023 when they had a disappointing World Cup Qualifiers campaign, are drawn in Group E against Angola, Guinea and Uganda.
Libya, who shocked Morocco in the regional qualifier earlier this week to enter the Qualifiers, is the only team unranked team.
Egypt, are going up against, Cote d’Ivoire, Central African Republic and Madagascar in Group D to be held in Cairo, while Cape Verde, Nigeria, Uganda and Libya form Group B to be staged in Monastir.
The 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers begins in February; it returns in November and it concludes in the third and last qualifying window in February 2025. The host country for next year’s African Championship is yet to be confirmed.
The teams that finish in the top three places of each group qualify to the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket.
