DOUALA (Cameroon) - Chaux Sports grabbed Wednesday's headlines by upsetting hosts KSA while Moanda Basket recorded their first win in the qualifiers.
Here's a look back at Wednesday's action at Complexe multisports de Japoma in Douala, Cameroon.
Chaux Sports extend winning streak to 3-0
Three games into Group C of the Road to BAL West Division taking place in Douala, Cameroon, and 18-year-old Franck Nyembo has been an x-factor for DR Congo champions Chaux Sports.
Nyembo came up with 12 points and 10 to help Chaux Sports beat hosts Kadji Sports Academy (KSA) 83-78.
It was the teenager's second double-double performance, having contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 79-76 win over Gabon's Moanda Basket on game-day-2.
Chaux Sports were led by Kyllian Rotardier who led all players in scoring with 18 points. Cameroonian Etienne Tametong Toko added 17 points to the victors, who have now moved a step closer to the West Division Elite 16 Round scheduled for Abidjan next month.
A key factor for the DR Congolese champions' third win in as many games was its bench, which outscored its opponents' 37-17.
Although the Cameroonian side capitalised from Chaux Sports' 28 turnovers, scoring 26 points, one factor that hindered KSA's chances in the game was its poor free-throw shooting 17-for-34.
Valentin Lele led KSA with 15 points, but he was 4-for-12 from the charity stripe. Cameroon international player Jeremy Nzeulie contributed 11 points; Simon Bileg II finished with 12 and Nigerian Toluwalope Obasa finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds for KSA.
Wednesday's Chaux Sports' win means they are now 3-0 and are the only undefeated team with a game remaining in the group while Cameroon champions KSA dropped to 2-1.
Moanda win first game
In their last game of Group C, Gabonese champions Moanda Basket made sure to sign out with a bang, beating King Africa Basket 78-66.
Moanda returned home with 1-3 mark, while King Africa dropped to 1-2 ahead of their clash against high-flying Chaux Sports on Thursday.
King Africa Basket's carelessness with the ball which resulted in 26 turnovers, combined with a 5-for-10 free-throw shooting proved costly to the Equatorial Guinean champions, who face an uphill task in the last day of Group C.
Cameroonian Jean Vincent Mouatcho, the only King Basket Africa player to score in double digits, finished with 17 points, but his effort wasn't enough to beat Moanda.
The Gabonese were led by Neil Biyogho Liyatou who contributed 17 points and Omar Siby who came up with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
