    Olympic basketball Final Phase Draw coming after last group stage game

    TOKYO (Japan) - With just one game to go for the men's and women's teams at the Olympic Basketball Tournament, it's time to take a look at the Final Phase Draw that follows their last Group Phase game.

    TOKYO (Japan) - With just one game to go for the men's and women's teams at the Olympic Basketball Tournament, it's time to take a look at the Final Phase Draw that will follow the last Group Phase game in each of the respective competitions.

    While the final eight teams are not yet all decided in what so far has been thrilling group stages, here are the things you need to know ahead of the draw that will determine a qualifying team's potential path from the start of the knockout rounds in the Quarter-Finals through to the Olympic gold medal game. 

    To reach the podium, teams will have to navigate three more games - Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and either the Gold or Bronze Medal Game.  

    The men's draw will take place immediately after the press conference of the final men's game (Spain vs Slovenia, the World Cup winner taking on the reigning EuroBasket champs) on August 1 at 17:20 Local Time (GMT +9).

    The women's draw  is slated to follow the press conference of the final women's game (Australia vs Puerto Rico) on August 2 at 21:00 Local Time (GMT +9).

    DRAW DETAILS:  NITTY-GRITTY SPECIFICS

    For those that want to know the particular rules the Tokyo 2020 men's and women's basketball tournament draw follows, we've got you covered. 

    Teams qualified for the Final Phase of the tournament will be divided into two pots:

    • Pot D is comprised of the three winning teams of the three Group Phases, along with the second-placed team with the best result from the Group Phase.*  
    • Pot E is made from the two remaining second-placed teams from the Group Phase, along with the two third-placed teams from the Group Phase.*  [/unordered]

      Now, onto the draw principles:

      • Each game pairing will have one team from Pot D and one team from Pot E
      • Teams from the same the Group Phase cannot be drawn against each other in the Quarter-Finals
      • The second-placed team from the Pot D cannot be drawn against the third-placed teams from the Pot E.  [/unordered]

        The Quarter-Finals get underway first with the men on August 3, followed by the women on August 4. The Gold Medal Game for then takes place on August 7, followed by the women on August 8.
