MIES - Former Swiss international player Claudine Ducommun-Clot visited the House of Basketball on Friday 30 September and generously donated an original poster from the first-ever FIBA Women's World Championship to the Historical Collections of FIBA's Foundation.

Accompanied by her family, Mrs Ducommun-Clot was given a tour of the Naismith Arena, the exhibition area on the ground floor of FIBA's headquarters on the outskirts of Geneva. It was with great enthusiasm that she discovered the history of basketball.

The native of Neuchatel competed in the 10-team FIBA Women's World Championship held in Chile from 7-22 March 1953. Switzerland were one of only two European sides to take part - along with France - as Italy withdrew.

She recalled the eventful trip to get to Chile and called it a veritable adventure that featured engine problems, countless stops and horrendous weather. Nevertheless, the whole experience left a lasting impression on her and she is extremely proud to have participated in the first-ever FIBA Women's World Championship.

FIBA and its Foundation wish to thank Mrs Ducommun-Clot for her visit and her priceless contributions to the Historical Collections.
