The draw for the 16-team tournament will get underway at 15:00 local time, with the results determining which of the four groups of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 each of the 16 teams will compete in.
The teams participating in the sixth edition of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, which tips off on July 9, are hosts Hungary, along with Egypt, Mali, France, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, USA, four teams that will qualify from the FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship, and one team from Europe to be determined.
Draw Principles
The participating teams have been distributed in four pots, based on the quality and geographical principles.
Therefore, the pots are as follows:
Pot 1: USA, Canada, France, Hungary Pot 2: Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Europe?* Pot 3: Asia 1, Asia 2, Asia 3, Asia 4** Pot 4: Mexico, Argentina, Mali, Egypt [/unordered]*Following FIBA's recent decision on Russian teams, the draw will feature a European team with the "?". FIBA will determine in due course which team from the FIBA U16 Women’s European Challenger 2021 will participate in the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.
**The number 1, 2, 3 and 4 corresponds to the classification of each team at the end of the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Championship to be played in June
Teams from the same continent/region will be equally distributed across the groups. Before the draw commences, the teams from each pot will be distributed in four groups and at the same time they will be assigned competition numbers.
A maximum of two European Teams can be drawn in the same group.

In the House of Hungarian Basketball, legendary player Timea Beres will feel at home, performing the U17 Women's Basketball World Cup draw. Beres played center for the Hungarian national team for more than ten years. At 21, she was part of the team that finished fourth at the 1997 EuroBasket Women, the best performance of her career with Hungary. Ten years later she was still extremely efficient in the qualifications leading to the 2007 EuroBasket Women, averaging 14,2 points and 7,5 rebounds per game, her best numbers wearing the national team jersey.
