MEXICO CITY (2016 FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship) – The do-it-all Valeria Navarrete is to provide the main thrust on Mexico's second successive appearance at the FIBA U17 Women's World Championship.

MEXICO CITY (2016 FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship) – The do-it-all Valeria Navarrete is set to provide the main thrust for Mexico as they prepare for a second successive appearance at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship.

In a 16-player candidate list, Navarrete is one of the standouts , with the guard having produced a string of energetic offerings at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Women’s Championship, which saw her hand out a productive 3.6 assists per game.

Mexico 16-player squad for 2016 FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship:

Andrea Amador Patricia Ayala Martha Barberio Diana Cano
Ana Canesco Adelina Carr Bibiana Castillo Maria Gastelum
Karla Martinez Rebeca Morones Valeria Navarette Sofia Payan
Alondra Pena Game Roa Gabriela Rosas Maria Ruiz

Navarrete is joined by last year’s leading scorer Maria Rui,z who averaged 13 points per game on home soil as Mexico reached the Semi-Finals of the tournament.

Forward Diana Cano will also be essential to their prospects, since she did the bulk of the heavy lifting under the basket in Puebla and that is an area where Mexico will have to stand firm to be competitive in Zaragoza.

They did manage a historic first ever victory at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship two years ago in Czech Republic when they toppled Egypt 76-70 and the underdogs will be looking to cause a surprise when they line-up for the first phase in Group B against Australia, China and France.
