Türkiye's Kerem Tunceri to perform Draw of the U17 Basketball World Cup on March 27

MIES (Switzerland) - The Draw for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup will be held on March 27, starting at 12:00 PM (GMT +3), at the Wyndham Grand Levent Hotel in Istanbul.

The competition will be held from June 29 - July 7 in Istanbul.

Draw Principles

The participating teams of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024 have been distributed in four pots created to reflect the strength of the continents regarding the current FIBA World Ranking Boys, presented by Nike and the results of the previous FIBA U16 Continental Cup. The pots are as follows:

POT 1: Türkiye, USA, Spain, Australia
POT 2: Italy, France, Lithuania, Canada
POT 3: Germany, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Guinea
POT 4: New Zealand, China, Egypt, Philippines

By the draw, the teams from each pot will be distributed in four groups, and at the same time they will be assigned the competition numbers.

Teams from Africa, the Americas, and Asia/Oceania will not be drawn into the same group. There will be no more than 2 teams from Europe in the same group.

FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani and Mr. Hidayet Turkoglu, President of the Turkish Basketball Federation, will be speakers at the event and watch former Turkish National Team player Kerem Tunceri perform the draw.

Tunceri and Turkoglu played for Türkiye's national team when it reached the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2010 Final in Istanbul, with the former scoring on a drive in the last seconds to give the country victory over Serbia in their Semi-Final.

Long before, the two were teammates in Türkiye's youth teams from 1995 to 1998.

Tunceri averaged more than 20 minutes per game as Türkiye came in sixth at the World Championship for Men 22 and Under 1997 in Australia, and he also played a vital role when his country finished third at the 1998 European Championship for Men 22 and Under in Italy.
