KAUNAS (Lithuania) - Luka Doncic posted a near double-double with a stylish display to mark his return to international competition for Slovenia at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The 22-year-old contributed 13 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals in 17 minutes as Slovenia eased to a comprehensive opening 118-68 win over Angola.
Doncic was playing in a competitive international for the first time since helping Slovenia claim a historic win at FIBA EuroBasket 2017 as an emerging 18-year-old.
"For me, it's also a pleasure to play for the national team," Doncic commented post-game. "It's something I desire, I can't wait to play so I’m really happy to be here. Everyone is enjoying playing and everyone is having fun, and that is what we have to do out there.
"We had a great start. We knew Angola was going to be aggressive and they were aggressive for the whole game. They were doing press 30 seconds to go, so I really respect that."
Doncic and Slovenia also had additional support watching on from the stands with national team hero - and FIBA EuroBasket 2017 MVP - Goran Dragic in attendance at the Zalgirio Arena to cheer on his former teammates.
"Obviously, I wish he was playing with us," Doncic said on Dragic. "He was the guy at EuroBasket 2017. It's great that he came all the way here to support us. It means a lot, not just for me, but the whole federation."
Slovenia's victory on Wednesday booked their place in the Semi-Finals alongside Poland, who they will meet on Thursday to determine who wins Group B.
