    European champs in full force as Serbia confirm Rio roster

    BELGRADE (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Ten of the 12 players who helped Serbia win EuroBasket Women 2015 have been selected for next month's Rio Olympics.

    BELGRADE (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Ten of the 12 players who helped Serbia win EuroBasket Women 2015 have been selected for next month's Rio Olympics.

    With the exception of Tijana Ajdukovic and Kristina Topuzovic, the 10 other members of the team that stood on the top step of the podium in Budapest last year have been shortlisted to become first-time Olympians.

    Ana Dabovic and Sonja Petrovic - key contributors in the European title run - joined the team earlier this week - and the pair is already making its presence felt.

    In the opener of a two-game warm-up series against fellow Rio-bound Turkey, the Serbs prevailed 60-53 on Friday. The two sides will meet again on Saturday in Belgrade.

    Before Marina Maljkovic's team open their Olympic campaign, they will play a friendly a friendly against hosts Brazil on 2 August in Rio de Janeiro. 

    After stunning Europe basketball with their first-ever continental title, Serbia head to Rio looking to compete and achieve the best possible as Jelena Milovanovic recently told FIBA.com.

    But first, they have a Group B challenge to overcome against FIBA Americas Championship for Women champions Canada, China, AfroBasket Women winners Senegal, Spain, and the world and Olympics reigning champions the USA.
