PORT MORESBY (FIBA U18 Oceania Championships 2016) - The 2016 U18 Papua New Guinea (PNG) National Championships concluded this past weekend. The tournament boasted the best talent from around the nation.
Players were not only fighting for a national championship, but also a chance to represent their nation. The PNG U18 Men and Women’s coaches used the tournament as a scouting opportunity to the select the players who will be representing PNG in Fiji this December at the FIBA U18 Oceania Championships 2016.
Following their performances at the national tournament held in Port Moresby, the 10 men and 10 women were notified of their selections.

BFPNG Executive Officer Joel Khalu said that finalizing the selections was a tough challenge.
"Because the standard of play was so high and most games were very close, both the Men's and Women's selection panels had an extremely difficult time confirming their final squads," Mr. Khalu said. "With competition for spots being so tight, I think that reflects just how much basketball talent we have throughout the country in this particular age-group."
"It's really exciting to also think that some of these players could quite possibly go on to earn selection into PNG senior sides when the 2019 Pacific Games rolls around."
