COLORADO SPRINGS - Featuring six stops throughout the United States from June to September, this week the fifth edition of USA Basketball’s Coaching Academy was announced.

Coaches and other attendees 18 years or older are welcome to different learning sessions that include demonstrations with players, talks, expert panels, and coaching techniques sessions, as well as life skills for both inside and outside the court.

The sessions on the road will take place in Los Angeles, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Dallas, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; New York City; and Washington, DC.

“USA Basketball Coach Academies have proven to be beneficial and impactful events, because they bring together coaching philosophies and player development skills and drills that apply to all levels of basketball,” said Jay Demings, USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development director. “This is our fifth year of coach academies, and it has been important to USA Basketball to continually improve the experience for everyone who attends.”

Some of the subjects covered in past editions include how to increase the intensity in practices and how to build a team defense, and how to have a winning mentality in and out of the court.

Since it started in 2015, this initiative provides information and education for basketball coaches and administrators, so that they can develop effective basketball skills and physical capabilities among children of all ages.

“Each academy includes knowledgeable and diverse speakers, the information is provided in a variety of formats and participants are encouraged to grow their network and develop professional relationships with one another,” added Demings.

Among the resources featured in the 2018 edition are Jeff Van Gundy, an NBA experienced coach that recently qualified Team USA to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. Other NCAA college basketball coaches and the WNBA’s 2018 Coach of the Year Nicki Collen will also attend.
