Thohir elected President of Indonesia National Olympic Committee
JAKARTA – FIBA Central Board Member Erick Thohir has received the honour of being elected as the President of the Indonesia National Olympic Committee.
JAKARTA – FIBA Central Board Member Erick Thohir has received the honour of being elected as the President of the Indonesia National Olympic Committee.
Having served as Vice President, he will now pick up the reins from Rita Subowo and lead the organisation for a first term of office.
Thohir recently visited International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in Lausanne, alongside FIBA Secretary General and IOC Member Patrick Baumann.
As well as the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations, the trio talked about the forthcoming 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the development of basketball and sport in Indonesia.
Thohir was elected to the FIBA Central Board last year while in his role as the President of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA).
He is the President of Inter Milan and was part of FIBA delegation at the meeting of the top clubs which took place at the FIBA House of Basketball in Mies last week.
Thohir is also known for his involvement in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the States where is the owner of DC United, as well as previously holding a stake in the Philadelphia 76ers.
