    Team Angola dominate Zone 6 U16 African Championship Qualifiers

    Six countries participated in the qualifiers in each category (men and women) in an event that was used as next year's FIBA U16 African Championships.

    LILONGWE (Malawi) - Angola men and women Under-16 teams have qualified to the 2023 FIBA U16 African Championship following their impressive dominance at this year's Zone 6 qualifiers hosted in Malawi's capital Lilongwe.

    The games were hosted from December 3-9, 2022.

    Six countries participated in the qualifiers in each category (men and women) in an event that was used as next year's FIBA U16 African Championships.

    The games were played in a round robin format and each team in each group played five matches.

    In the men's category, Angola  won all their five matches to emerge the gold medalist, and their country took gold home from  the women's category also. 

    Zambia came out as silver medalist in both categories while the host Malawi became the bronze medalist in both categories as well.

    Women's category

    Mozambique finished in fourth position with seven points after registering two wins and three losses.

    South Africa finished  fifth with six points  after wining once and four losses.

    Finally, Zimbabwe finished bottom in the women's category after a 0-5 record.

    Men's category

    South Africa finished fourth on the log table with seven points having registering two wins and three losses.

    Mozambique finished in position five with 6 points after registering one win and four losses.

    Zimbabwe finished bottom of the pool after losing all their five fixtures.
