LUANDA - Dominant performances from Eduardo Mingas and Emmanuel Quezada in Game 5 of the 2018 UNITEL Basket League Finals steered Primeiro de Agosto to the national title on Tuesday night.

Mingas and Quezada combined for 40 points in the 101-82 win over archrival Petro de Luanda to wrap up a domestic double after their Angolan Cup win over Sport Benfica e Libolo last month.

Petro de Luanda captain Paulo Leonel came up with a game-high 35 points, but the fifth contest of the best-of-seven series belonged to hosts D'Agosto who clinched their fifth Angolan League title over  the last ten seasons.

In the process, Mingas was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 Unitel Basket Finals, D'Agosto Paulo Macedo was named head coach of the year while Petro de Luanda small forward  Gerson Goncalves scooped the regular-season MVP award.

While Macedo dedicated the triumph to his players, Petro de Luanda head coach Lazare Adingono admitted that "D'Agosto was a deserving winner.  We had a good season even though we didn’t win the title. I am proud of the players, and our fans, without them we wouldn’t have reached a competitive level that we did."

As a result of their win, Primeiro de Agosto - the most successful basketball club in Africa - earned a spot in the FIBA Africa Zone 6 Qualifiers  for the FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2018 Qualifiers to be held later this year.
