MIAMI (United States) - Continuing with the vision of increasing the participation of women in refereeing, FIBA has scheduled a virtual clinic, aimed at female refereeing, within the framework of the "International Celebration of Women" on March 8.

“It is our privilege to invite all of our National Federations to join with our zone in a unique and innovative opportunity that FIBA initiated last year to help create, develop and promote our game,” Americas Regional President Ms. Carol Callan said.

The Clinic will be given by Fatima Da Silva (Brazil), FIBA Technical Delegate and Referee Instructor, the only woman assigned to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, Gabriela Schaer (Costa Rica), FIBA Technical Delegate, designated for the Games Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Nadine Crowley (Canada) FIBA refereeing instructor, also nominated for the Games.

“The leadership of women in officiating has always been a challenge, studies are not seeing it as a gender issue – only a basketball one. My advice to the new generations of female FIBA referees is to work for your goals. Opportunities arise - I am a prime example of this, but you have to be prepared for that moment, work to be better without running over anyone and not letting anyone tell you that you can't," said Schaer.

One of FIBA's strategic pillars is to develop National Federations and women in basketball and for that reason numerous virtual clinics for referees and coaches are scheduled during the 2019-2023 cycle.

This March 8, it will be possible to participate virtually through the Zoom platform (7:00 local time) and can be viewed after the live session (open to Federations) through the FIBA channel on YouTube.
